FAQs

What is Carnitine?

Carnitine is known as natural fat burner. It can assist in the metabolising of fat, weight loss, recovery and can help to enhance physical performance.
Carnitine is an amino acid, vitamin-like compound known for its relation to vitamin B-12. It is formed in the kidneys and liver from the amino acids methionine and lysine. Carnitine can be found stored in multiple areas of your body but predominantly in muscles including your heart and brain.
Carnitine exists in two forms L-Carnitine and D-Carnitine. D-Carnitine is biologically inactive therefore not sold as a dietary supplement. L-Carnitine is found in nature and is biologically active.
Carnitine is a generic term which refers to a number of compounds such as L-Carnitine, propionyl-L-carnitine, acetyl-L-carnitine. The acetyl group is attached to carnitine molecules to improve absorption or the ability to pass fat into cells and expedite the detoxifying process. In other words carnitine is a dietary supplement responsible for the conversion of fat cells in your body into energy and the removal of toxins.
True Carntine is called L-Carnintine Tartrate because tartrate is an element of tartaric acid that is added to our blend to stabilise the powder and adds to the refreshing lemon taste in the final product.

What is Carnitine’s role in your body?

Carnitine, in simple terms, helps to convert fat into energy. Your body is made up of cells and in these cells there is the mitochondria, which is the powerhouse of the cell and to better explain they are organelles that act like the digestive system within the cell. Carnitine plays a critical role in transporting long-chain fatty acids into your mitochondria, so they go through that process where they are oxidised, or in plainer terms, burned to produce energy.
Carnitine makes it easier for the mitochondria to break down nutrients and convert them into energy-rich molecules in the form of ATP (adenosine triphosphate). ATP molecules are known as molecular currency because in order for the energy to transfer out of the cell it has to be converted into ATP format. This is the process in which our body is able to store and transport chemical energy within cells.

Why should I take Carnitine?

If your goals are fat loss, weight loss, recovery and/or enhancing physical performance in your chosen sport or in gym sessions then Carnitine would be a suitable supplement for you to take. If you lead an active and healthy lifestyle with no pre-existing medical conditions, then you may be getting an adequate amount of carnitine from your diet from foods like red meat.
It is more common to see the elderly and people who don’t consume meat products lacking carnitine in their diets. If you are lacking consumption of red meat in your diet, then Carnitine could be a beneficial supplement to keep in your pantry.
Carnitine has several benefits such as helping repair muscle damage or soreness, muscle growth, enhanced fat metabolism, increased blood flow to the muscles and weight loss.

Is it ok to take Carnitine with other supplements?

Carnitine is suitable to take with other supplements. Is important to pay attention to the correct dosage of each supplement before taking them. We don’t recommend taking larger doses than recommended of any supplement. There are no studies or evidence to declare carnitine unsafe to take alongside other supplements provided you don’t have any serious medical conditions. It is always best to consult with your doctor before adding any vitamins or dietary supplements into your diet.

Will Carnitine assist in weight loss?

Carnitine can assist in weight loss when combined with a well-balanced wholefood diet and regular exercise. Carnitine assists with the metabolising of fat in the cells, turning them into energy. This newfound energy will help you exercise a little more or a little longer, which will ultimately help your body reach its weight-loss goals.

How do I take Carnitine?

You can take Carnitine in water or juice up to three times a day, approx. 30 minutes before a meal. If you want to add it to a smoothie, be aware that Carnitine has quite a bitter lemon taste that does not mix well with dairy-based drinks. It is entirely dependent on each person, as some of our customers have left reviews saying they add it to their whey protein shakes each day and enjoy the taste.

Is Carnitine suitable for vegetarians and vegans?

True Carnitine is suitable for vegetarians and vegans. Our Carnitine is obtained through a chemical synthesis that is not extracted from meat. The process in which Carnitine is made was invented by a scientist names Lonza in Switzerland. Carnipureâ„¢ crystalline is pure L-carnitine, whereas Carnipureâ„¢ tartrate that we sell is a salt of 68% L-carnitine and 32% L-tartaric acid, which is the highest L-carnitine concentration of any currently commercially available nonhygroscopic salt form. So you can take comfort in knowing that True Carntine is vegan and vegetarian friendly.

Is Carnitine safe for women and men to take?

Carnitine is safe for both women and men to take. As far as scientific studies go, no studies have declared Carnitine an unsafe supplement. There are a few concerns around carnitine and heart disease. There were studies conducted in 2013 that highlighted that there could be a relationship between heart disease and the carnitine derived from red meat, however shortly afterwards this study was dismissed. The research only showed a temporary increase in a substance called Trimethylamine N-oxide (TMAO), which is sometimes associated with heart disease but has never been proven to be the definite cause of heart disease. There have been other studies that suggest there is no connection between eating red meat and being affected by a heart condition.
